Internal Mains Modernisation

IQA, in conjunction with the Regional Electricity Provider and various Local Authorities, is engaged in an internal mains modernisation project aimed at providing improved LV distribution to all occupied properties that meet the criteria.

Working in conjunction with many Local Authority modernisation programmes, surveys are completed on the condition of the network asset, either during the installation of a mains isolator switch or alternatively through a data gathering exercise, and this determines the selection process for LV modernisation.

Case Study

A typical example of this would be for North Lanarkshire Council who have an extensive Kitchen, Bathroom and Rewire programme. These contracts are split into areas North, South and Central in batches of about 300 properties. Prior to these contracts starting NLC request isolator switches to be installed, from these installations it is identified if an ‘earth upgrade' is required.

One case in particular was Central Contract 17 in the Airdrie area, a total of 278 properties. This contract had a large number of earth upgrades required. We worked closely with NLC's contractor and planned our works in conjunction with their programme. By increasing our resources we were able to complete the works well ahead of schedule.
